Purpose
               Use this simple braid, replicating a pigtail plait from a single strand, either to

               shorten a needlessly long length of line or to improvise a handle or hand-hold on

               a suitcase, a church bellrope or a sailing dinghy’s dagger plate.



               Tying

               Arrange the line in three parts and plait as shown, bringing alternate outer left
               and right standing parts across the middle strand (figures 1–3). See how a loose

               mirror-image  of  the  developing  plait  is  created  at  the  lower  end  of  the  work.
               Untangle this, as the work progresses, by pulling out the free end. Finally make a

               locking tuck (figure 4).
