My Costly Non-Ride
I thought that I’d treat the Honda CX650E to an outing on this morning as it had been three or more weeks
since she’d been out for a canter. Bike started fine and we rode to the United service station in Tapping to
top up with fuel. Boogah, can that be right? $48 for the two of us? Oh well, sign of the times, grin and bear it
(actually, grimace and curse it). The CX starts up fine again and we toddle across to Maccas to chew the fat
with the rest of the crew prior to deliberating on a destination and route. Mike P once again offered to lead,
on this occasion to Goomalling and beyond. All good, at least it was up until the CX refused to turn over. I
waved the crew to ride on and leave me to undertake some troubleshooting. The upshot was a dead battery,
not ailing, but quite irredeemably dead (as dead as a Norwegian Blue). So, Uber home, $21 for 8km?, what’s
this? Surge pricing, well tell Serge to pass the pricing to someone with more compassion.
Eventually got home, bought new battery ($125), and brought the bike home.
Anyone want a stressful and disappointing morning? Going (cheap?) for $194.
