History of the term Treasurer and finance

The term Treasurer was initially formed in the 10th Century. The term described the person who
looked after the noble’s gold, wealth, and treasure. The treasurer informed the noble of the ex-
penses, balance and obligations to create friendships or the cost of an impending war. As centu-
ries progressed, the term Treasurer maintained its original definition but extended the idea to in-
clude the financial reporting of the funds and advise of expenditure, savings and fundraising possi-
bilities to the organisation.

Finance refers to the management, creation and study of money and accounts. After bartering
ceased, the term finance was initially formed when people began paying for their goods. As people
began to increase their money, the savings were referred to as finance.
If we all won the lotto, like the nobles, we would want a treasurer or accountant to guide us on not
losing but increasing our finances. That is why nobles had a treasurer – so they did not need to
worry about the finances – only to know how much treasure and finances they had to secure their
influential position.
