Lockhart River
Lockhart River, a welcoming Indigenous community, has a grocery
store, fuel and accommodation.
The Lockhart River Arts Centre is home to ‘The Lockhart River Art
Gang’ a collective of artists creating beautiful contemporary works
found hanging in both national and international galleries.
Head through the town to check out beautiful Quintel Beach.
Fishing is not permitted from the beach nor the Claudie and
Lockhart Rivers. As a ‘bona fide’ traveller you are able to carry
alcohol through the Lockhart River restricted area, however, it pays
to know the rules.
Iron Range Cabins
The Iron Range Cabins are located adjacent to the airport, 5km
from the Aboriginal Community of Lockhart River – a great place to
take a break from the swag.
The airport area has a rich and interesting history. It was built and
used by the US and Australian armed forces during World War II.
Accommodation: Studio & 2-bedroom ensuite cabins w/ full
kitchen, twin & double ensuite cabins w/ shared kitchen
Facilities: Adjacent to Airport, 5km to local general store, meals
available Mon – Thurs, laundry, communal BBQ area, car hire, no
pets
Greenhoose
A green oasis - a home away from home, where you’re made to
feel like part of the family. If you are looking for birdlife, you’ve
come to the right place. Birders from around the world have used
Greenhoose as a base for their trips. Birds such as the Magnificent
Riflebird, Eclectus Parrot, Green-backed Honeyeater, Northern
Scrub-Robin and the renowned Palm Cockatoo are common
sightings in the area.
