WEDNESDAY WANDERERS REPORTS
Wednesday 14th December
Golden Oldies, Timeless Classics
By Timorous Spouse for ride leader Karen M
Searching my mind for an (admittedly unnecessary) title for these few scribbles and I settled on the above.
Was it because the eleven riders were golden oldies? Not really. Certainly (in my case) any gold in/on my
crown has long ago turned an undistinguished shade of mouse before receding to the outlying areas of my
scalp. Perhaps we or our steeds were timeless classics then? No, not that either. The bikes were all of rela-
tively recent vintage (including Dave Senior’s new Harley) and it was manifestly evident that the riders were
anything but timeless by their ability to rock up on a mid-week morning. Perhaps the reason will become
clearer if I move along with the bones of the ride.
Five destinations were on offer, and Karen’s proposal of a run out to CU@Park in Gingin was adopted. Out
through Neaves, Chittering Valley and Bindoon before braving the washerboard that Mooliabeenee has be-
come. The café is one of my favourites for its good vittles, service and peaceful ambience.
The homeward journey was along Military and Indian Ocean Drive.
That ride/route is like White Christmas, Chattanooga Choo Choo, or Stormy Weather. It is the “Timeless
Classic”, and I thank Karen and our TEC Mike P for serving it up for the crew.
Chris’s - Wednesday 21th December
Twelve very hardy and keen motor cyclists fronted up to our meeting point this morning and with high
temperatures and strong easterlies forecast it was decided that one of three destinations was on offer.
Bakers Hill, Goomalling or Pickering Brook(yours truly was thinking of a shortish ride) so Pickering Brook was
the go and I had the pleasure of leading with Ted -E as tail end Charlie (now Ted -E being a new member and
still having his L plates was ably assisted by Ken)
With the temperature building I decided a quick but scenic route was needed so heading along Pinjar road
and out through the back blocks of Jandabup all was going well till we turned into Townsend Rd, only to be
confronted by two people on horseback riding down the middle of the road. I am thinking this will go either
one of two ways so planning for best outcome we throttled our horse power back to a crawl … and they
moved off the road allowing us to pass, with one of the horses getting a bit spooked but otherwise being
kept under control … I believe a drama was averted.
The rest went as planned with the Swan Valley, Red Hill and Mundaring Weir for a comfort stop and on to
Yvette’s cafe for a cold refreshment and a good natter was had by all. Many thanks to Ted - E for his TEC
duties. Can I also wish all of the many riders who join us throughout the year a very Happy Xmas and a safe
and happy New Year keep the shiny side up and ride safely over the Xmas Break!
