In December 1982, President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation statingthat the first full week of October was designated as national %u201cMinorityEnterprise Development Week%u201d (MED Week) to recognize the tremendouscontributions that minority business owners have made toward the continuedeconomic development of our Nation. The U.S. Department of CommerceMinority Business Development Agency (MBDA) and the U.S. Small BusinessAdministration (SBA) were named as the lead agencies for MED Week.Today, this worthwhile effort continues.Since 1983 MEDWeek has been observed throughout the nation, includingJacksonville, with thousands of entrepreneurs participating in workshops,seminars, trade fairs, luncheons, procurement conferences and otheractivities.Annually, MEDWeek provides a forum for discussion of major issues affectingthe growth and development of minority business enterprises (MBEs).National MEDWeek provides an opportunity to recognize the outstandingcontributions made by minority entrepreneurs and the public / corporatesectors in support of minority enterprise development.11
