TECH TALK

This time of the month when I review the repairs over the last month and talk about the most relevant repair for the month
and or tips on usage. I have instead decided to give you a bit of my background.
Back in the early 2000’s I operated an Internet Café, albeit a bit early for the idea but all in all a great concept. I recall creating
websites then and anyone that knows website creation can attest to the cumbersome software used to build sites then.
Operating system of the day was Windows 98 and XP.Internet at that time was a painful dialup connection which was painful,
now add in 6 other computers all online and you are definitely not streaming anything (not that that was a thing then). Most of
the people that came in were seniors looking to learn how to use computers. Nothing has changed there other than most now
worked with computers in their jobs until the retired. Just a bit of an edge but honestly the questions are still the same on
usage. Here is the biggest trick to getting anyone started with using a computer. Start with a simple game of solitaire, not only
do most know how to play the game but it gets one used to pointing, clicking dragging and dropping skills with the mouse.
Pivotal in using any computer. The other thing that I always told everyone was to explore, look around and don’t be afraid of
looking everywhere. Now I did add in if they were not sure they should be where the were that there was always an X in the
upper right-hand side of the screen, they were in so they could simply close the window. Big thing there is not to be afraid of
it and to use computers to the fullest and if you happen to make a really big mistake, we can take care of it for you. From
repairing Windows to replacing hardware components we can handle all of those oops moments.
Mind you my computer days originated with an XT computer with 512k of ram and a 32meg hard drive running DOS 3.1. That’s
   a whole other topic.
We can be reached at Dr. Jim’s Computer Repair at 392 Front St in Downtown Belleville.
   Until next time.
