Marmora Public School
I am pleased to share below details pertaining to this year’s grade eight graduates. P.S. A slide show will be sent to you from the grade 8 classroom
teacher. Logistics: Families assembled outside of the school in their vehicles. Graduates proceeded to the podium where they were greeted by school
administrators Steve McFadden (principal) and Jason Carman (vice - principal), along with grade 8 classroom teacher Breanna Wright. Mr. McFadden
started off sharing kind, congratulatory words to each of the graduates. Miss. Wright then shared some personalized messages to each of the graduates.
The parents and graduates were delighted to hear these very kind, personal messages about their child(ren)’s growth and development. Mr. Carman then
shared with students their awards/diploma and directed them to the arch way for photographs.

Student Awards:
1) Marmora Public School English Award: Recipient: J.J. S. The Marmora Public English Award is awarded to a student who demonstrates overall
excellence, aptitude, and enthusiasm in the Language Arts curriculum. This recipient has demonstrated an ability to utilize strategies to construct
meaning from a variety of literature as well as, reflect on and identify stages in the writing process. This recipient receives $50.00 from the Royal
Canadian Legion Branch #237. They will receive a medallion as well as have their name engraved on a trophy.
2) Marmora Public School Mathematics Award: Recipient: Carter Wright The Marmora Public School Mathematics Award is awarded to a student who
demonstrates overall excellence, aptitude, and enthusiasm in Mathematics. This student has demonstrated proficiency in a range of mathematical skill
sets; including application and problem solving. This recipient receives $50.00 from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #237. They will receive a
medallion as well as have their name engraved on a trophy.
3) Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Bennett Award for a student best exemplifying “Citizenship” Recipient: Drake van de Ven The Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Bennett
Award for citizenship is presented to a student that demonstrates passion and commitment to sustainability as well as an exemplary understanding of
how their actions affect the world that we live in. This recipient receives a medallion as well as having their name engraved on a trophy. This student will
be receiving a tree and certificate from Quinte Conservation.
4) Marmora Public School History Award: Draken G. The Marmora Public School History Award is presented to a student that demonstrates a passion for
History which is expressed through a positive attitude, classroom participation, and insightful contributions that inspire other students to share a
common interest. This student completes all assigned History assignments to the best of their ability and displays excellent work habits. This recipient
receives $50.00 from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #237. They will receive a medallion as well as have their name engraved on a trophy.
5) Marmora Public School French Award: Recipient: Eric F. The Marmora Public School French Award is awarded to a student who exhibits a love of
learning the French language, a desire to learn more about the language, and has consistently made efforts to use the language on a daily basis both
inside and outside of the classroom. This recipient receives a medallion as well as having their name engraved on a trophy.
6) E.T.F.O Award: Recipient: Nolan H. The E.T.F.O. (Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario) Award is presented to a student who consistently
demonstrates a positive attitude and effort in their work. This student willingly assists others in a cheerful manner and consistently follows through with
their commitments. This recipient receives a medallion.
7) Tom Tompkins Award: Recipient: Daniel M. The Tom Tompkins Award is awarded to a grade 8 student who is a high achiever in all elements of their
Marmora Public School endeavors both curricular and extra-curricular. This recipient receives $50.00 from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #237.
They will receive a medallion as well as have their name engraved on a trophy.
8) Louanne Moore C.Y.W. Award: Recipient: Faith W.G. Lou Stands for Love, Openness, and Understanding. The Louanne Moore Award is awarded to a
student who recognizes, values, and seeks ways to improve the Mental Health and Wellbeing of others. They actively look for ways of positively engaging
others to participate and become part of the larger school community. This recipient receives a medallion as well as having their name engraved on a
trophy.
9) C.J. Mowat Award - For Outstanding Grade 8 Athlete: Recipient: Daniel M., Sami C. The C.J. Mowat Award is awarded to a grade 8 student or students
who have consistently demonstrated strong physical education skills, have demonstrated a leadership ability when working on a team, and have also
displayed good sportsmanship and cooperation. This recipient receives a medallion as well as having their name engraved on a trophy.
10) Principals Leadership Award - Recognized by the Ontario Principals Council (O.P.C.): Recipient: J.J. S. The Ontario Principals Council Award is
awarded to a student who consistently demonstrates exemplary student leadership skills. This recipient receives a medallion as well as having their
name engraved on a trophy.
11) The K.C. Gillies Award (Valedictorian): Recipient: Katherine A., Drake V. The K.C. Gillies Award is awarded to a student or students who are an
excellent role model to peers. They possess good public speaking skills, are well-respected by his/her peers, possess positive attitudes, and display good
citizenship qualities. This recipient receives a medallion as well as having their name engraved on a trophy.
12) Marmora and Lake Firefighter’s Bursary: Recipient: Faith W. G. The Marmora and Lake Firefighter’s Bursary is awarded to a student who
demonstrates an ongoing commitment and dedication to their learning. This recipient receives a medallion as well as a $50.00 gift certificate donated
on behalf of the Marmora and Lake Fire Department.
13) The Nelly Scrutton C.A.R.E. Award: Recipient: Katherine A. The Nelly Scrutton C.A.R.E. Award is awarded to a student who exhibits the qualities of a
former custodian, Nelly Scrutton. Nelly was a kind and caring person, a hard worker, and someone who would do anything when asked. Nelly took pride
in her work, and in her duties as custodian at the former Marmora Senior School. Nelly also was a valued member of the EarthCare team. This award
goes to a student who emulates all of the C.A.R.E. qualities (Caring, Achievement, Respect, and Environmental Awareness (a little “Nelly). This recipient
receives a medallion as well as having their name engraved on a trophy.
14) Honour Roll: Recipients: Katherine A., J.J. S., Drake V., Daniel M. Students are recognized on the honor roll for achieving an overall academic average
of 80% or higher over 2 terms. These students will be presented with a medallion highlighting their achievement. These students are receiving
certificates from the Municipality of Marmora and Lake. As well they will receive ts and pins from the Municipality. 15) Students will receive their
diplomas indicating that they have successfully completed the required grade 8 studies at Marmora Public School.
A very special thank you to all staff, students, and families. We have all worked together collaboratively to problem solve and support each other in every
way possible. Thank you to all parents who have stood by and supported their graduates from entering school in Kindergarten until now as they embark
on another chapter of their lives and leave us graduating from grade 8. We wish all of our graduates the very best with all future endeavors. Please stay in
