On June 6, Officers David Perez and Jill Newman re- sponded to a call about shots fired in the area of 52nd Street and Lowe Avenue, where a citizen stated that someone had been shot. The officers followed a blood trail to an apart- ment on the second floor, where a victim was bleeding pro- fusely from a gunshot wound to the upper thigh. The of- ficers quickly reacted by applying a tourniquet to stop the
bleeding. The ambulance arrived and further treated the victim.
It was determined later that the victim would have per- ished if not for the quick reaction of the officers.
