Officers stop car thief who tries to use vehicle as a weapon
On May 28, the nominated officers
were searching for a known offender in a
stolen vehicle. The officers spotted the of-
fender and attempted to stop him. As the
officers exited their squad, the offender
fled the scene in the stolen vehicle, hitting
Officer David Roldan in the process. While
fleeing, the offender, without regard for
human life, struck a citizen’s vehicle, then pinned Officer Ernesto Amparan against another car. The offender began to flee again when Officer Amparan, in fear for his life, discharged his weapon and defeated the threat.
The injured officers were taken to the hospital; the offender was placed in custody and subsequently charged. Each of the officers reacted courageously and valiantly in this life-threatening situation.
It is with great appreciation that the Fraternal Order of Police Chicago Lodge No. 7 honors Police Officers Ernesto Am- paran, David Roldan, John Guzman, Mateusz Jasinski, Matthew Bracken and Gary Sanabria by presenting them with Distin- guished Service Awards. d
