On Aug. 20, Officers Victor Razo, Yesse- nia Medina and Lee Caldwell were work- ing in the 4th District on the Tact Team when they monitored the call of a man with a gun on a bike at 91st and Com- mercial.
The officers responded to the scene and observed the offender fleeing toward 89th and Escanaba. They blocked his angle of escape, and the offender pro- duced a gun and pointed at the officers.
Officer Razo, in fear for his life and that of his partners, discharged his weapon. The offender continued to flee with his weapon and pointed at the officers once more when Officer Razo discharged his weapon again, causing the offender to fall and drop his weapon. The offender was placed in custody and charged accordingly.
It is with great appreciation that the Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago Lodge #7, presents Officer Victor Razo, Yessenia Medina and Lee Caldwell with Distinguished Service Awards. d

On Aug. 29, Officer Monica Reyes and
Commander Frank Valadez were on patrol
when they observed the occupants in one
vehicle fire gunshots into another vehicle.
Commander Valadez gave chase to the
offender’s vehicle, which crashed into sev-
eral parked cars along the way. The offend-
er continued his efforts to escape and refused all verbal commands to stop his vehicle. He then purposely crashed into the police squad Commander Valadez and Officer Reyes were in, resulting in a shoulder injury to Commander Valadez.
Officer Reyes and Commander Valadez ordered the occupants of the offender’s vehicle to exit as well. The armed offenders disre- garded verbal commands and put their vehicle into drive and con- tinued their efforts to escape. The driver then started to open his driver side deep tinted window, at which time Commander Valadez fired three rounds and Officer Reyes fired five rounds at the offend-
Monica Reyes and family
er, eliminating the threat permanent- ly.
Due to the quick actions and pro-
fessional, calm responses resulting
from experience and training, Com-
mander Valadez and Officer Reyes removed a criminal with murder on his mind from the streets of the city.
It is with great appreciation that the Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago Lodge 7, presents Officer Monica Reyes and Commander Frank Valadez with Distinguished Service Awards.
