ty,” Jackson said. “People will come up to us afterward and say, ‘I saw you! You were the officer dancing!’”
Naturally, cellphone videos of uniformed officers partic- ipating in line dancing will likely go viral on social media within minutes. And, as embarrassing as that might be, it’s key to bridging the gap that Jackson so desperately seeks.
He credited the event’s success to relentless promotion. By the time he had finished posting on social media, talking about the event during beat meetings, sending emails and making phone calls, people were contacting him for infor- mation.
Jackson hopes his numbers continue to grow and that participation remains as spirited as it’s been.
“Everybody is out there dancing,” he said. “No one’s just holding up the wall.”
