A special day of service in 012
Members of the 12th District paid trib- ute to a pioneer of community unity on this Martin Luther King Jr. Day by par- ticipating in a “Day of Service” at a local school.
Volunteers, staff and Chicago Police Department Officers gathered at the W.H. Brown STEM Magnet School on Jan. 21, where they joined efforts to re- pair and organize classrooms and hall- ways while students enjoyed the day off.
Along with Nancy Arroyo, a civilian who works in 012, Officers Paris Edwards and Manny Martinez spent the MLK Day of Service giving the school’s hallway a fresh coat of paint and organizing books in the library.
This public service event was orga- nized by ChiGivesBack, a volunteer non- profit that works to improve the well- being of the Chicago community.
Arroyo, Edwards and Martinez em- braced the opportunity to work together with members of the community they serve on a project that will benefit both educators and youth.
