C recognies officer who nabbed robbery suspect on train
Less than two weeks after 19th District Police Officer Timothy Kroski nabbed an armed robbery suspect by prying open the doors to a Red Line train, the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation (CPMF) honored him with its Officer of the Month award.
During a ceremony held in January, foundation officials detailed how Kroski and others working in the area quickly responded to the description of a man suspected of using a gun to rob a woman in the Lakeview neighborhood.
Police believed that the suspect was headed to the CTA Red Line Station on Belmont, which is where Kroski and fellow officers began their search. After hearing a description of the suspect and his clothing, Kroski spotted a man who matched those details on a soon-to-be departing train.
Kroski opened the doors to the train car and pulled the man back onto the platform, where officers discovered the woman’s belongings as well as a replica
handgun, which the victim likely would have believed to be real during the rob- bery.
“This highlights the good work done every day by Chicago Police Officers
around the City, who took more than 9,500 guns off the streets in 2018,” CPMF Executive Board member Hiram Grau said at the ceremony. “We are proud to make Officer Timothy Kroski our January Officer of the Month.”
