Cops in the Community
In many ways, a new year means a fresh start filled with opportunity. Around the city, 2019 opened with officers doing what they do best: giving back to the community while also connecting with resi- dents and visitors across the city, as they welcomed January with a variety of events and civic activities.
        Area Central Bike Unit
Despite chilly conditions, Area Central Bike Unit officers made sure all downtown revelers were safe while they enjoyed New Year’s festivities along the Chicago River.
Bike Unit
Members of the bike unit offered support at the Whitney M. Young Mag- net High School, where students participated in a mayoral candidate fo- rum on Jan. 17.
At the Bears game
The Bears season came to an abrupt end with a playoff loss to the Phila- delphia Eagles, but Chicago Police Officers were right there with fans at Soldier Field, keeping watch all season through the final home game. Fans, in turn, showed their appreciation while heading into the Wild Card game on Jan. 6.
CPD Pipes and Drums
CPD’s pipes and drums joined in the festivities at a fundraiser held at Joe’s on Weed Street to benefit the families of Officers Samuel Jimenez, Conrad Gary and Eduardo Marmolejo. The night also included a silent auction.
Blood drive
Officers stepped up to the plate for a blood drive at the Benito Juarez Community Academy, part of a Vitalant-Illinois event held during National Blood Donor Month.
