15th District helps at-risk seniors
The COVID-19 pandemic created many challenges for vul- nerable members of the community, a situation that could have been made worse by a mid-summer Chicago heat wave in July. But, officers in the 15th District made sure that their seniors weren’t forgotten by staging a care package delivery campaign. Police teamed with Beyond Hunger, an organization working to end hunger in several areas of Chicago and near western sub- urbs, to deliver wagons full of food and other necessities right to the doors of grateful residents.
A slam dunk for community policing in the 9th District
On July 24, 9th District officers brought their basketball skills to the court to build bridges between law enforcement and the community. The Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council and Chicago’s Light in the Night nonviolent organization partnered with 9th District CAPS officers to host a socially distanced bas- ketball skills challenge among youth and residents.
Officers worked to break down negative misconceptions about police, while showing off their three-point shooting skills and participating in dribbling and free throw drills alongside inner-city youth.
