BRAIN INJURY ADULT CLASSES
Beginning in January of 2019, the Rocky Mountain Hi Chapter of SDP will begin their 3rd consecutive year of sponsoring and teaching Art Classes for the adult survivors of TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). These classes have proven to be one of the chapter’s most worthwhile Philanthropic endeavors. Not only have they been thrilled with the positive and enthusiastic feedback from students and their families, it has been and continues to be an absolute joy and blessing to those who are teaching, monitoring and interacting with these brave and resilient people.
Normally, there are 12 to 15 students in class, which is offered twice a month. Classroom space limits the number of students who can comfortably and reasonably be accommodated, which is unfortunate, and results in turning away individuals who yearn to enjoy the comradery and have experience of creating art. Some of the comments the students have made are:
"I think this class has saved my LIFE! Thank you.”
“My 7-year-old has told me that I am a happier Mommy since taking these art classes. Thank you.”
“My brain is so much more focused and clearer since taking these art classes. Thank you.”
“I have begun to dream in color again for the first time since my injury. Thank you.”
“I didn’t know I could paint. Thank you.”
These responses to the art class are so rewarding. The chapter is grateful for the opportunity to pass along the love of painting to these deserving and
Rocky Mountain Hi tries to curate an Art Show twice a year to not only honor the artists, but to help educate the public and those in health care to the possibilities which lie within these amazing people. It is rewarding.
Rocky Mountain Hi generously furnishes all the materials, supplies, lesson plans and samples for a new project in each class. The funds required for these projects is raised by a silent auction each spring, where members bring painted pieces, decorated items, extraordinary baked goods and GUESTS who bid on and purchase items, recognizing that it is for a great cause. The whole experience,
from fund raising to teaching the classes is a WIN-WIN!
