CROWN PROGRAM
SDP is about more than just painting. This has been made so clear by the display of generosity in our 2018 Crown program. (see page 90 for a list of Crown Donors). This organization is made up of some the best members in the world. Each and every month fellow members are helping their communities and each other. Donated funds to our Society of Decorative Painters Foundation 501(c)(3) allows the donor the opportunity to make a donation into a non- profit that is helping provide decorative painting education nationally, as well as internationally. The Crown giving programs allow each donor the opportunity to be a part of the elite painters that support decorative painting education, scholarships, and our very important SDP Museum located at our Headquarters in Wichita, Kansas. Thank you for
your 2018 donations. 2018 Donors will be receiving their Donation Packages in early spring. We're anxiously waiting for our vendors to send all the goodies to us. Once received, we will pack your very special boxes and send to you!
It's not too late to be a Crown Donor. We started our 2019 Campaign in January. Select your level of the SDP Crown Program and receive an exclusive pin with a charm
to represent your level, or, if this is your second year you will add another charm to your pin. You are all jewels! Check out our website for all the details and grab your fellow painters and become an “SDP Crown”.
MAKE IT, TEACH IT, SHARE IT
We’re so excited to see that Julie Cloud, a member of Idaho Heritage Artists, painted the Urban Farmhouse ‘Home’ pillow from the Winter 2018 issue of The Decorative Painter. Her first painting was done on a cotton dish towel
instead of a pillow. Her chapter has sponsored a beginning painting class and Julie taught this design. From pillow, to
dish towel to quilt square to whatever fabric you wish to paint on, this design lends itself very well. Julie really appreciates Miho’s simple, but beautiful design that is
adaptable to many surfaces. It could even be painted on a welcome sign with your name in the middle. Way to go Julie! This is exactly why we have added this project section to The Decorative Painter. We want you to use these easy projects to attract new members to decorative painting.
SDP PAINTS A MODEL LEARJET FOR THE AIRFLAIR PROJECT
Austin Powerplane has landed. AirFlair winner Brandie Thompson took delivery of her groovy, pattern-mixing design January 28th which was brought to life with paint by the Society of Decorative Painters.
AirFlair, an online, paint-a-plane game
and competition began
in October 2018 as
a traditional holiday outreach to clients and friends of the Wichita based Greteman Group. Players designed their own aircraft livery, painting the fuselage, engines, wings and tail with a multitude of colors, patterns and textures. Greteman's annual agency giving associated with this outreach donated funds to WSU Tech’s aviation STEM initiatives.
Integrating science,
technology, engineering
and math into real-world
applications helps us all
soar. Adding art to the
mix, Thompson’s one-
of-a-kind design was
hand painted by Society
of Decorative Painters
artist Miho Halsey. SDP
Executive Director,
Jennifer Arnold, said the
Learjet 45 model was the
Wichita-based organization’s first-ever aircraft, connecting SDP to Wichita, the Air Capital, in a new way.
