SUNFLOWERS, GREENERY, AND DELPHINIUMS
SUNFLOWERS
TIP: The petals are basically lines and the impression of petals, so don’t get too hung up on how many there are or if you go over the pattern lines.
Load the no. 2 round brush with a touch of Raw Umber and Quinacridone Gold; paint the centers of the sunflowers.
Load the no. 2 round brush with Sap Green and paint dabs of greenery here and there between the flowers.
Load the no. 2 round brush with Titanium White and paint the sunflower petals. Wipe the brush off, load with Diarylide Yellow and repaint them. Let dry. Load the no. 2 round brush with Hansa Yellow Light and paint the petals along the front of the flower. Reload the brush, add some Titanium White to the mix and mix on palette. Repaint a few of the brighter petals along the front. Let dry.
Load the toe of a slightly damp 1/4" angle brush with Vermilion. Float the color along the base of the back petals. Refer to the finished picture for color placement.
Rinse brush; load with Quinacridone Gold and the toe with Payne’s Grey. Float the color along the base of the flower center and paint a loose “u” shape in the center.
GREENERY
Load the no. 2 round brush with Payne’s Grey and Sap Green and paint small dabs to give the appearance of leaves. Rinse brush, load with Green Gold and a touch of Titan Buff and highlight the greenery. Paint fewer dabs of this lighter color. Letdry.
DELPHINIUMS
Load the no. 2 round brush with Phthalo Blue and Dioxazine Purple and paint small dabs to paint the flowers. Wipe the
brush off, load with Phthalo Blue and Titanium White and mix on palette; paint small dabs on the flowers. Rinse brush, load with Dioxazine Purple and Titanium White and mix on palette. Paint small dabs on the delphiniums here and there. Make sure not to cover up all of the dark base color. If you do, simply add more of the base color here and there.
Load the no. 2 round brush with Payne’s Grey and paint the inside front center again. Add some dark pockets in between the flowers here and there.
