My favorite subject to paint is flowers. The variety of shapes, colors and textures lend to endless possibilities. Very often I start a project just to get distracted by the next endeavor. I discovered blending with a mop totally by accident one day and now use it to create striations in my petals with ease. Give it a try. It might not be your cup of tea, but you never know.
PREPARATION
Basecoat entire surface with Chrome Green Hue. Lightly sand and wipe with tack cloth. Apply a light coat of Krylon Clear Matte Spray Varnish and let dry. Trace pattern onto tracing paper. Locate the center of the surface and transfer pattern using white transfer paper.
LET’S PAINT
Brushstroke technique – “Swipe & Wipe”
Fully load your brush with the color indicated. Corner- load with two additional colors. Slightly blend together on palette paper.
Starting at the outer edge and with pressure, pull one continuous stroke toward the center, ending where another petal begins. To reload, do not pinch out brush. Pick up more paint on the dirty brush. Streaks are preferred and more natural.
Continue reloading brush until petal is completely basecoated in. Mop with a light touch in the direction of strokes. Pinch paint out of brush and load. Move to next petal.
Tip: Using pressure on your brush moves paint. Light pressure blends paint.
