Transfer the petals onto a piece of loose canvas using dark graphite paper. I chose to paint the petals and then cut them out. Refer to the Step-by-Step above.
ALL SETS: Apply two to three coats of Terra Coral for solid coverage. Let dry. Using a no. 10 flat brush, shade with a sideload of Tomato Red as shown in Step 1.
SETS A & B: Deepen the shading using Deep Burgundy in the same manner as shown in Step 2. This will be a smaller, tighter area. Do not cover the Tomato Red entirely.
SET A: Add an additional shading of Deep Burgundy plus a touch of Midnite Green in the same manner. Again this area is smaller and tighter than the last color as shown in Step 3. ALL SETS: Using a no. 10 flat brush, highlight with a brush mix sideload of Terra Coral+Light Buttermilk (1:1) as shown in Step 2. If it doesn’t show up, add more Light Buttermilk to the mix.
SET C: Apply a second highlight of Light Buttermilk as shown in Step 3.
Veins are done with Terra Coral+Light Buttermilk (1:1) using no. 10/0 liner as shown in Step 3. Remember to thin down the paint with a touch of water. This will help to pull the lines more easily.
If a darker red color is desired, use the 3⁄4" wash brush to wash the flower petals with Cherry Red.
LEAVES
STEP 1: Using a no. 10 flat brush, basecoat with Jade Green. Let dry. With a clean no. 10 flat brush, shade with a side- load of Light Avocado.
STEP 2: Apply to the base of each leaf and down one side of the center vein. Repeat with Midnite Green (in a smaller, narrower area). With the same brush and technique, high- light leaves with Shale Green+Light Buttermilk. This color is placed on the tips and opposite side of the vein. If this doesn’t show up, add straight Light Buttermilk.
STEP 3: Dilute Midnite Green with a touch of water, load a no. 10/0 liner and pull veins. Cut the leaves and petal
