LET’S PAINT
After completing my finished sketch, I block in my darker areas. This will give you a very good perspective on the balance of my layout. Before painting, you’ll need to mask off the outside image area with the painter’s tape. This will give you a nice clean 1" (2.5cm) border around your painting, which will not only protect it but will give your framer a clean area for matting.
STEP 1: You’ll use the 3⁄4" flat wash for the harvest moon and sky. Put some Pro White and some Yellow Oxide on your palette. Apply an abundant coat of Pro White to the moon. Immediately wash the brush and apply some Yel- low Oxide into the Pro White, mixing it around on the sur- face. Let dry and repeat with Yellow Oxide.
Put some Blue Haven on your palette. Apply Pro White to the horizon and cover the entire right side of the sky. Then mix in some Blue Haven, working upward. Apply a heavy dab of Blue Grey to the upper right. Start to blend everything together. The wet surface and Pro White will double your working time.
Repeat for the left side of the sky.
