I am so happy to see Yoko Ueda share one of her beautiful floral creations with The Decorative Painter. If you don’t already know her, you will fall in love with her talents. I have known and painted with Yoko for many years. Her paintings have a beautiful feel- ing and movement. Enjoy!
PAINTING TIPS STAGE ONE
Use just enough paint to cover the surface. Following each application of color, blend in short, choppy, crisscross strokes.
DRYING: Before drying your painting and continuing to the next stage, take time to blot the surface every time you finish a section. Excess paint can build up, especially along the outside edges of design elements. To blot, lay a single thickness of tissue over the wet paint, and lightly wipe in all directions with a large mop. Finally, be sure to wipe the entire surface with a tack cloth to ensure a clean surface after every drying. This can make a real difference in your completed piece.
STAGE TWO
GLAZING & SHINE: Use transparent paint to adjust the overall hue, temperature or value of an object. It may also be used to build darks and shines, helping to develop additional form.
PREPARATION
Seal the surface with your choice of sealer. Sand, wipe, and clean. Use a sponge roller to paint the background to an eggshell finish. Basecoat the entire surface with Driftwood and let dry. Mist lightly with Winsor & Newton Matte Finish. Then, trace pattern onto the surface.
