                                                                 ACRYLIC
Outline this flower using Titanium White+Yellow Oxide (4:1) on the Pine Green and Rich Gold strokes, and Napthol Crimson on the Red Earth strokes. Add the stem lines that flow from this flower.
Select a flower and begin painting it with Pine Green. Apply all the Pine Green in all the flowers, if you’d like. Use C- and S-strokes when painting the flowers. Now stroke in the Red Earth on the flowers and add the Rich Gold strokes.
After the three colors have been applied, you may add the lines and teardrops that embel- lish the stem lines. Then outline the red with Napthol Crimson and the green and gold with Titanium White+Yellow Oxide (4:1). Some of the outlining strokes create unexpected stems for smaller flowers or buds. Stroke in these smaller flowers. Refer to the photo for color place- ment. Outline these flowers with the appropriate colors.
Add the small Pine Green scroll combination at the top of the tree. Add the Rich Gold em- bellishing strokes on the ends of the scrolls. Outline as indicated in the photo on page 122. There will be lines and embellishing strokes that extend from the flowers. There will be Tita- nium White+Yellow Oxide (4:1) lines extending from the red and the green, but there will also be Napthol Crimson lines and dots embellishing the flowers to give good color balance.
FINISHING
Using the script liner, add a Napthol Crimson line around the edge of the tree. Add a deco- rative line around the base and paint the beveled edge Pine Green. Allow to dry thoroughly, at least a couple of days, especially if you used a lot of Jo Sonja’s Gel Retarder. You want to make sure that the areas with the Gel are very dry to prevent any removal of paint as you varnish. Apply a coat of Jo Sonja’s Polyurethane Matte Varnish using a bristle brush. Allow to dry thoroughly, then apply a sec-
ond coat of varnish. Allow to dry
thoroughly. Give a final gentle
sanding with a piece of crumpled
paper lunch bag or Super Film for
a smooth polished surface. Add
the red candles. Enjoy!
