TWO mEmBERS AWARDED TDA STATuS
VICKI ALLEY tda, TDP COMMITTEE CHAIR
Congratulations and kudos to our two new TDAs. Janet Roache tda, of Gaylordsville, Conn., passed her final test in July, 2013. Eriko Takada tda, of Kyoto, Japan, passed her final test in March, 2014.
“I’m so delighted by the news that I passed my TDA,” shared Eriko Takada tda. “I was beginning to give up, but I was encouraged by the SDP staff to keep trying. I had wonderful support from my students, too. I hope many members will try this great program— now that I have passed I’m ready for the next steps in my teaching career.”
The SDP Teacher Development Program for Excellence in Teaching was established to provide
SDP members with an educational program that offers the opportunity to improve the standard of teaching decorative painting. The program will improve the skills of experienced teachers and help painters who want to become teachers.
Becoming a TDA is a very rewarding part of an artist’s life. It is not an easy task, but when you have successfully completed the program and earned your designation, it gives you such a feeling of accomplishment. The world knows you are serious about teaching decorative painting and that you have learned what it takes to be a good teacher. This can make a difference when you want to promote yourself as a teacher of decorative art. People know you have what it takes to teach them what they want to learn!
Will you consider the TDP program? Do you have what it takes to be a good decorative painting teacher?
I bet you do, and you are just waiting for the right time. Well, the time is now! Take the first step and get the manual. Read it, study it, and take the written test. That’s the first step, and the rest is easy. Just teach some classes and make a video. Does videoing yourself make you nervous? Don’t let it stop you. You are already teaching in front of an audience.
Try to overcome that fear. Trust me, it will be worth it.
If you need some advice or help, other TDAs are just a
phone call or email away. The rewards are worth it.
