  SKILLBUILDER
 SKY
STEP 1: Before painting the sky, mask off all buildings with painter’s tape. Mask the smaller detail areas with Masquepen. Put some Ultramarine Deep, Peacock Blue, and Red Violet in the paint tray. Using the 1" flat, satu- rate the sky area with a generous coat of water. Wait a few seconds to let it soak in and then repeat this three times. Apply a very heavy coat of Pro White on either side of the steeple and some above it. Wash your brush completely. Apply a splash of Ultramarine Deep in the left top corner. Do not be dainty about this; just splash it on.
STEP 2: Repeat the Ultramarine Deep in the right corner. Wipe your brush and apply small amounts of Peacock Blue and Red Violet in the right corner. Then wash your brush.
STEP 4: Continue a final blending of color and Pro White on the left side of the sky. Blend the entire surface. You should have a long working period due to the amount of water still in the paper.
STEP 3: With your damp clean brush, start to blend the Pro White into the color on the left part of the sky, then the right part of the sky. Keep the area around the stee- ple very white. Continually wipe your brush and start blending all your color toward the white.
