Learning color theory was probably one of the most important aspects of my painting journey – not being dependent on a bottle of pre-mixed color. Don’t get me wrong; I do use some pre-mixed bottle colors (Medium White) and they do have their place in the art world. For example, when I go into a client’s home and she wants to use my services to decorate her home, she can give me her ideas and I can color coordinate what colors she already has and what she wants me to create. I can then go home and know exactly how to mix those colors, make swatches and bring them back for her approval. This learned art principal has opened many doors in my community for interior design. You may notice that the colors I used in the background mix were also used in the poinsettia and leaf mixes. The use of these toner colors (Medium White, Yellow Oxide, and Raw Umber) gives the painting an over- all warm subtle appearance and is exactly what I was try- ing to achieve. These glasses are a Christmas present to the parents who adopted our grandsons. Even though they are a Christmas design the colors matched the décor in their dining area and can be left out year-round.
You might choose to make one for each of your din- ner guests. I would suggest using only a batery operated votive. Not only is it safer, but then you can also use the etched glasses to serve wine.
