BACKGROUND PREPARATION
Trace the lampshade template onto the styrene plas- tic sheet. Using excellent quality scissors, cut out two shades or however many you would like. Paint the styrene shades front and back with a mixture of Medium White+ Yellow Oxide+Raw Umber (4:1:1). Dry and very lightly sand again using 600-grit sandpaper.
Basecoat again. Save the background color in a small airtight container as you might need it for touch up.
WET-INTO-WET BLENDING
BERRIES
Use the cat’s tongue brush for the berries.

brush is appropriate for the area you are about to blend into Extender, blot well on a paper towel and load it into the me- dium value mix. While the paint is still wet and only blend- ing one petal at a time, sideload the brush into the light value paint and blend it into the light value area (see Value Placement Map on page 21). Next, sideload the paint into the highlight value and blend it on top of the light value. Finish all the poinsettia petals and allow them to dry. When dry, moisten the surface again and sideload the brush into the dark value paint, lightly blending it out into the medium value area. While still wet, sideload the brush into the low dark value and blend it into the dark value.

The technique I use in most of my paintings I refer to as Acrylic Blending or Wet-into-Wet Blending. I prefer this method of blending one value into the next because of the subtle value changes that occur when one value is blended into another.
With solid coverage, basecoat the elements in the paint- ing with the medium value mixes (see Color Mixes below). When dry use the wash brush and moisten the surface with DecoArt Traditions Extender & Blending Medium, brushing it back and forth across the surface. Next, dip whatever size
