HIGHLIGHT: Highlight with Warm White.
SHADE: Burgundy+Burnt Umber (1:tch). The liner work is Burnt Umber.
BACKGROUND
Shade under some of the petals and on the background where the petals go underneath the center using the Low Dark Leaf mix+Burnt Umber (1:tch).
GOLD LEAFING
Pencil in a line 1⁄4" up from the bottom and 1⁄4" down from the top. Place painter’s tape for curves along the lines toward the center of the shade. Seal it down with your thumb. Apply gold leaf adhesive onto the exposed area. Let it tack up for about an hour. Carefully remove the tape. Using cotton gloves, tear the gold leafing into small pieces and apply it to the bands covering all the areas. Allow to dry overnight. Using a soft brush, remove all the excess leaf in a trash can. If any touch-up is needed, apply adhesive again, only to those areas needed and repeat the steps. Buff with a small cotton cloth.
FINISHING
Varnish with three coats of DecoArt Traditions Satin Varnish.
PREPARING AND ETCHING THE GLASS
STEP 1 STEP 2
PREPARING AND ETCHING
THE GLASS
Cover the area you are working on with plastic. Remove any residue on all areas of the glass you plan on etching with a paper towel moistened with alcohol. Place one of the wine glasses in an empty plastic container. I used a 2-liter empty soda bottle. Cut off the spout and save it as a funnel to pour the dip ’n etch crème back into the original container for reuse. Fill the soda bottle with just enough water to cover the entire foot of the glass. You will need to weigh the glass down to keep it from bobbing. I used a small mesh sack of glass pieces from the Dollar Store in the floral aisle. (See Step 1 below.)
Remove the glass from the soda bottle and mark the outside of the bottle with a black Sharpie. (See Step 2 below.)
Pour out the water; dry the inside of the soda bottle and the wine glass. Pour in the dip ’n etch crème to the height of the area you marked on the outside of the bottle. Place the glass into the etching solution, weigh it down again with the bag of rocks and leave it for 15 minutes. (See Step 3 below.)
Remove the glass from the solution and rinse in water. Repeat for the second glass. When finished, pour the re- mainder of the solution back into the original container using the spout of the soda bottle. (See Step 4 below.)
