LET’S PAINT
Applying the tangle designs will take time and a steady hand. Create the designs by using the white Gelly Roll Pen and following the detailed Zentan- gle Step-by-Step on page 87. If it is easier, pencil in the designs before inking, erasing the pencil lines later.
CENTER TRIM
The Center Trim refers to the curved, triangular trim that borders the circle designs.
sTEP 1: Assess the open space and the curvature of the lines. We will be cre- ating a “grid pattern” within this space. Refer to the photo of the finished project on page 84.
sTEP 2: Draw a series of evenly spaced long lines inside the trim—from one end to the other—parallel to the curve of the trim. Refer to Step 2 on the Step-by-Step.
sTEP 3: Draw evenly spaced short lines, perpendicular to the lines in Step 2. Make note of where one piece of trim overlaps the other, and adjust spacing accordingly. Refer to the photo of the final project on page 84.
sTEP 4: To the top and bottom of approximately every other short line add a small dot. Some areas will be too close to follow the every-other-line sugges- tion, so use your best judgment in these areas.
ROSES
The rose shirt border and the corsage are all worked the same. If you transferred the outline of the roses only, start with Step 1. If you trans- ferred the details of the roses, begin with Step 4. Review the Step-by-Step on page 87 and the finished project on page 84 before beginning.
sTEP 1: The rose design begins with the spiral shape in the center of the flower. sTEPs 2 AnD 3: Create the petals by building curved shapes around the cen- ter shape. Refer to Steps 2 and 3 on the Step-by-Step.
sTEP 4: Divide each curved petal in half by inserting a line in the center of each petal. Refer to Step 4 on the Step-by-Step.
sTEP 5: Add evenly spaced repetitive lines throughout the rest of the petal, moving from the center to the outside border of that defined space.
CIRCLES
The circle designs in the body of the skirt are circles within circles. Add linework consisting of three long lines and two short lines—basically the shape of a W—using the interior lines as a base. Refer to the Step-by-Step.
TEARDROP LACE
Note that there are two layers of lace at the bottom of the dress.
sTEPs 1 AnD 2: Assess how the lace is constructed and how the design works within the borders. We will be creating a “gridded fan” within this space. Refer to the photo of the finished project on page 84.
sTEP 3: Create a border line inside the original border of each teardrop’s outline.
sTEP 4: Apply the small, evenly spaced lines inside the teardrop border. sTEP 5: Divide each teardrop in two by drawing a vertical line down the cen- ter, from top to bottom.
