OCEAN WAVES/SCROLLS: Please refer to the photo.
There are layers of Light Buttermilk, Snow (Titanium) White and Ocean Blue. 1. FormthescrollswiththinnedOceanBlueandthe#6roundbrush. 2.Paint over the Ocean Blue with very washy Light Buttermilk.
3.Add very washy Snow (Titanium) White to highlight.
4.With the liner brush, outline the curves with Snow (Titanium) White. 5.Repeat Ocean Blue with the #6 round brush for shadows.
6.Float in reflections of Purple Pizzazz and other colors from the palette.
The stroke above the tip of the Humu tail is painted with the #2 round brush and Sea Breeze. Paint the small Purple Pizzazz scrolls with the liner brush where ground touches water. Use the stylus and Wild Orchid to fill in where needed with five or six groups of dots on each side of the hibiscus.
FINISHING
When the painting is finished, use the Identipen to outline.
1. Trace the name with the Identipen: humuhumunukunukuapua’a, first thin lines, then go over the letters making them thick and thin as shown in the photo.
2.Outline these parts of the picture with your Identipen:
• HIBISCUSLEAVES:veins,jaggededgesofeachleaf.
• OHIALEAVES:Outlineeachleafanddrawaveininthecenter.
• CALYXANDSTEMSOFOHIAFLOWERS:tocreateashadow. • Stemanddoteachberry.
• SmallPurplePizzazzscrollsneartheberriesandtheleaves.
• Drawinsquigglesnearthesmallpurplescrolls.
Float Black Green around the edge of the plate.
Varnish with three coats of your favorite high gloss varnish.
