STEP FIVE
To make the textured background of the design you will use
DecoArt Glamour Dust: Aqua, Champagne Gold, Copper, Emer- ald, Sapphire Blue, and Silver Bling. Dampen the no. 4 mop brush with turpentine, and take off excess using a paper towel. Using the barely wet brush, start dissolving the dust and apply the different color dusts in a speckled matter. Begin to integrate the different dust colors so that they will fuse together. Important: make sure the mop brush is clean before you apply each color of the DecoArt Glamour Dust. Clean the brush using the turpentine.
Once this is dry, apply a layer of shiny varnish spray on the whole painting.
STEP SIX
YELLOW FLOWER
Once you have applied the Grey Sky color, start to stain the flow- er using a no. 8 round brush and a mixture of Grey Sky+White Wash (3:1) for the areas with light. For the darker areas maintain the Grey Sky color; for the center mix Grey Sky+White Wash (1:2).
Now that the flower is stained, start applying Saffron Yellow (di- luted or watered down) in the center of the flower. Use the 3⁄8" filbert comb brush and paint, beginning at the center and going toward the outside. For the petal that is placed in the upper right hand area, create a stain mix Royal Fuchsia+Red Violet (2:1). For the lower area use White Wash. Once this is dry, apply diluted Saffron Yellow to the lower area of the petal.
CENTER OF THE FLOWER: Basecoat center with Alizarin Crim- son. Using the 3⁄8" filbert comb brush with Cadmium Red make small stokes over the Alizarin Crimson.
PISTILS: Using a no. 1 round point brush with Saffron Yellow+ Cadmium Red (1:tch), make small comma-strokes.
Finally, use only the tip of the brush to make dots around the pistils.
STEP SEVEN
FUCHSIA FLOWERS
Once the basecoat of the flowers is applied, start to stain them using the rotating technique wet-on-wet. For areas with light, mix Royal Fuchsia+Petal Pink (1:1), for the darker areas use Alizarin Crimson, and for the areas with the greatest amount of light use Bubblegum Pink. (See Step-by-Steps on page 15.)
To carry out the pistils and center of the flowers use the same procedure that you used before on the yellow flower with Saffron Yellow+Cadmium Red (1:1).
