ACRYLIC
STEP 7: Use the 1⁄4" angle with Driftwood to highlight the barn roof.
STEP 8: Wait until the painting is nearly done to use the 3⁄4" angle shader with Charcoal Grey to wash in the barn’s shadow as the last step.
FRONT LAVENDER FIELDS
Use the 3/8" angle with Dioxazine Purple to shade the rows of lavender. Then use 3⁄4" stippler brush with Snow (Titanium) White to Lavender (1:1) to paint up and down the rows, using more in the center rows where the sun is hitting. The lavender will be finished after the hedgerows are added.
HEDGEROWS
Randomly use the 1⁄4" deerfoot stippler with Hauser Dark Green and Plantation Pine to enhance the edges of the road, between the fields, and to add depth and highlights.
FRONT LAVENDER FIELDS (CONT.)
STEP 1: When the hedgerows are dry, use the 3⁄4" wash brush and Dioxazine Purple to wash in the purple on the far right and far left sides of the lavender fields. Be care- ful to leave the middle of the field alone (where the sun is hitting it). Put two coats of wash on the right side of the lavender field to give even more contrast.
STEP 2: Grasses in the foreground: Using the no. 10/0 liner brush with Toffee, turn the plate upside down and pull the strokes toward you. At the tops, be sure some grasses bend down and some stand straight to give it a natural look. Add a few dashes on the tops of some of the grass.
LAVENDER AROUND THE RIM
STEP 1: You will be adding eight sprigs of lavender, spaced equidistant around the rim of the plate. Notice in the photo on page 50 the positioning of each sprig.
STEP 2: Use the no. 2 liner with Light Avocado to paint on the stems of the lavender. I use the liner but put slight pressure on each leaf to widen them a little. Use the 1⁄4" angle and Plantation Pine to add shadows on the sides of some, but not all, of the leaves.
STEP4: Usetheno.2scriptlinerwithLavenderandDi- oxazine Purple to paint the lavender buds and blossoms. The top three on each sprig are buds and are done with Lavender. The bottom three are blossoms and are done with Dioxazine Purple. Finally, mix a little Snow (Tita- nium) White+Lavender and feather in a semi-circle on each blossom.
STEP 5: Now that the painting is nearly done, use the 3⁄4"angle shader with Charcoal Grey to wash in the barn’s shadow.
