As I create my nutcrackers, I sometimes feel like the character Geppetto from “Pinocchio”. Although instead of carving away on a piece of wood, I use a brush. Part of a personality emerges with each stroke, and I feel
a sense of excitement as the new creation comes to life. Pete and his pumpkin harvest remind me of the beautiful fall colors, wonderful food, and the treasured Thanksgiving memories cultivated with loved ones over the years. I’m sure the first Thanksgiving couple had no idea the simple act of sharing food with neighbors and celebrating their harvest would bare such beautiful fruits on into the future. As you take up your brush to paint the colors of Fall and create Pilgrims Pete and Prudence, I hope you can get lost for a moment in the simple lovely things in life that bring you thankfulness.
