ACRYLIC
LEGS AND PANTS
Basecoat the legs with Warm White. Let dry. Tape off or draw on the stripes. Use a no. 4 flat to paint the darker stripes with Skin Tone Base. Apply a thin coat of Jo Sonja’s Clear Glazing Medium to set the paint. Let dry. Use a no. 12 flat to float shading between the legs (on the right side) and at top and bottom area of both legs with Brown Earth. Once dry, use a no. 6 oval drybrush and Warm White to drybrush streaky stripes over the shading on just the white stripes. Then use a no. 5/0 script liner to add the small diagonal lines down the darker stripes with Warm White. Apply another thin coat of Jo Sonja’s Clear Glazing Medium and let dry. Re-float between the legs, on the right side, with Brown Earth. Go back and use Warm White to re-line some of the small diagonal lines that were covered with shading.
Basecoat the pants with the Tingel’s Mix. Let dry. Use gray graphite paper to transfer the main lines on the pants, but excluding the swirl design, which is done later. Use a nos. 6 and 10 domed round blender to drybrush the highlights on each leg and cuff with the Light Tingel’s Mix. Apply a thin coat of Jo Sonja’s Clear Glazing Medium over the pants and let dry. Use a no. 12 flat and Brown Earth to float shading between the legs on the right side, under the jacket, above the pant cuffs, and the side edges of the cuffs. Let dry. Use white graphite paper to transfer the decorative swirls on each pant leg. Use the Light Tin- gel’s Mix along with a no. 5/0 script liner and no. 1 short liner to line the scrollwork design and above the pant cuffs. Repeat and brighten the scroll design with added highlights of Warm White mixed into your brush. Use Burnt Umber and the no. 1 short liner to line between the pant legs, down the legs, and under the pant cuffs.
FACE, TEETH,AND HANDS
Basecoat the face and hands with Mulled Rose. Lightly transfer the details of the face using gray graphite paper. Use a no. 6 domed round blender to drybrush highlights on forehead, nose, cheeks, chin and hands with Skin Tone Base. Brighten the highlights on the forehead, end of nose, and upper cheeks by adding a bit of Warm White to the brush and drybrushing a light layer over the previous highlights.
Basecoat the teeth, on the face and lever, and the whites of the eyes with Warm White. Basecoat the iris of each eye with Leaf. Use Burnt Umber to basecoat the pupils and line the eyelids. Add a layer of Jo Sonja’s Clear Glazing Medium to set the paint and let dry. Use a no. 3 round and the Light Leaf Mix to drybrush highlights on the iris of each eye. Then brighten the same highlights with a bit of Warm White added to your brush. Next, use Leaf and a large stylus to add the larger highlight dots to each eye. Let dry. Repeat the highlights with smaller dots of Warm White.
Use a no. 12 flat to float shading on top of the forehead and under the nose with the Skin Shading Mix. Then brighten the highlight at the end of the nose with a float of Warm White, and shade the upper and lower teeth with a float of Skin Tone Base; gently mop. Use Rose Pink and the no. 10 domed round blender to lightly drybrush the rosy cheeks and ends of the hands. Also, with the same color and a no. 5/0 lin- er, add the lines between the teeth. Line the eyebrows and around the mouth with Brown Earth.
MOUSTACHE, BEARD,AND HAIR
Basecoat the hair and moustache with Brown Earth. Use a no. 6 oval drybrush with Norwegian Orange to drybrush the highlights on the hair, and a no. 6 domed round blender to drybrush the highlights on the moustache. To highlight the felt pieces for the beard, use Red Earth and a no. 12 flat to brush the paint over the cut ends of each piece.
