Remove the arms, and base from the body and seal each of the wood pieces, including the wood pumpkins and mini craft stick, with Jo Sonja’s All Purpose Sealer. Let dry and sand lightly. Use gray graphite and transfer the main outlines of each element of the design.
Prepare a wet palette with the colors listed, plus the fol- lowing color mixes.
COLOR MIXES
Tingel’s Mix: Tingel’s Pond+Cornflower (2:1)
Light Tingel’s Mix: Tingel’s Pond Mix+Warm White (1:1) Skin Shading Mix: Brown Earth+Red Earth (1:1)
Light Leaf Mix: Leaf+Warm White (1:1)
Light Turners Yellow Mix: Turners Yellow+Warm White (1:1)
Light Pink Mix: Rose Pink+Skin Tone Base (1:1)

After painting the basecoat layer, make sure to light- ly sand with fine sandpaper to remove any bumps or ridges. Touch up if needed before moving to the detail work. When creating the stripes on Pete’s leg and the belt around his waist, use painter’s tape to tape off the edges of the stripes before painting. You can also draw on the stripes using a clear ruler and sharp pencil. Refer to both the worksheet and the pattern for placement of the stripes and other important details.
When the pattern calls for floating, make sure to use a mop brush to soften and blend the float. Between floats and adding detail, apply a thin layer of Jo Sonja’s Clear Glazing Medium and let dry. When using Jo Sonja’s paint, it is very important to set the paint with Jo Sonja’s Clear Glazing Medium between steps so more detail can be add- ed without pulling up your previous work.
