the round piece for the top of the hat and trim if necessary. Hot glue the round piece onto the top of the hat and care- fully hot glue the hat onto the head of the turkey. Now use just a touch of hot glue to glue the twisted macramé cord around the hat and meet the ends in back, or too much glue will ooze out onto the brim. Trim and hot glue the ends together. Center the buckle over the cording on the front of the hat and hot glue in place.
TURKEY BEAK, WATTLE, WINGS, AND CORD AROUND BODY
Look to the photos for reference in placement of the beak, wattle, and wings. Carefully place a small bead of hot glue onto the wide edge of the beak, then bend the beak and position it under the eyes and press in place. Add a small amount of hot glue to the bottom of the beak to further se- cure the beak to the head. Hot glue the large wattle piece right under the beak. Then hot glue the smaller wattle piece under the beak, slightly overlapping the larger wattle piece.
To glue the wings, place a bead of hot glue along the side edge of the main body and press the wing over the glue, holding it in place until it starts to cool. Make sure to glue down the small end of each wing. Lastly, hot glue the braided macramé cord around the main body next to the tail feathers. Trim any excess and hot glue the ends at the bottom of each side.
SPATTERING
Use a spattering tool and Burnt Umber to carefully splatter Prudence, the base, and turkey. Avoid the faces.
Use a damp cotton swab to remove any unwanted splat- ter. Apply another coat of Jo Sonja’s Matte Varnish to the wood pieces, covering and preserving the splatter.
COLLAR, CUFFS, HAT, AND BOW (PRUDENCE)
Referring to the pattern and photos on page 16, posi- tion each collar piece around the sides of the shoulders. Use hot glue to tack the collars in place, and be careful to use a small amount so the glue doesn’t come through the felt. Wrap the cuff pieces around each of the wrists and match ends, then hot glue in place with a small amount of glue. Once the glue cools, hot glue the small black buttons to top of each cuff. Then use a needle and white thread to stitch a gathering stitch along the curved edge of the bonnet. Gather the felt together and place the bonnet over the head to see how tightly to gather it. Once you have gathered the back of the bonnet the way you like it, knot the thread and trim off the excess. Care- fully tack down the bonnet onto the head with a small amount of hot glue. Then fold the front of the bonnet over according to the pattern and carefully tack in place. Tie a bow with the thin black cording and hot glue to the top portion of the lever next to her chin. Trim ends.
GLUING BASE TO NUTCRACKER
Use wood glue to attach the base to the nutcracker. If any of the glue oozes out under the nutcracker, quickly wipe it away with a damp cotton swab.
