ACRYLIC
PREPARATION
Remove hardware. Seal all surfaces with a mix of Jo Sonja’s All Purpose Sealer+ Carbon Black (1:1). Sand and then paint a second coat with straight Carbon Black. Trace pattern and transfer to surface leaving off the small details.
LET’S PAINT
STEMS
Basecoat stems with Antique Green. Dry-brush a highlight with Sea Grass.
LEAVES ALONG STEMS
The leaves/comma-strokes are done in sets. Use your photo to identify the color placement. Each group starts with the base color. For the second stroke add a little Husk. Continue to add more Husk for each succeeding stroke. Be careful when doing your mixing that you don’t make too big of a difference between each stroke.
Brown comma-strokes on stem: Raw Sienna.
Green comma-strokes on stem: Moss Green.
Add tendrils with Husk. The red strokes are basecoated in with Burgundy. Line the
jagged edge with Desert Dawn. Use Desert Dawn+Titanium White+Husk (1:1:1) for the top comma-stroke. Add Husk dots.
BERRIES
Basecoat all berries in French Blue. Use a filbert or a flattened round to float in the highlights and shading. The highlight is Sapphire+Titanium White (1:1). On the oppo- site side of the highlight float a shade with Burgundy+Desert Dawn+Titanium White (1:1:1). Add a small shine mark in the highlighted area with Husk.
Strokework design painted on a photo album.
SMALL FLOWER
Basecoat center with French Blue. When dry, highlight tip with a float of Sapphire+Titanium White (1:1). Add wavy lines with Desert Dawn+Titanium White (1:1). Paint S-stroke petals with Raindrop+Titanium White+Husk (1:1). The next step is done with a double-load- ed brush of the following mixes: Moss Green+Husk (1:1) and Sapphire+Titanium White+Husk (1:1:1). Load brush with Moss Green Mix and then dip in the blue mix. With double-loaded brush paint the comma-strokes closest to the stem. With Raw Sienna+Husk (1:tch) paint the inside comma-strokes and the radiating strokes on the flowers. The shade lines on the pet- als and the calyx are done in Burgundy.
