Basecoat each rose with one coat of Light Pink Mix by swirling color using a no. 6 filbert, keeping edges loose and fluffy.
Shade the left side of each rose with a 3⁄8" side load- ed brush mix of Medium Red Rose+Permanent Alizarin Crimson. Paint in the center with a no. 3 round using the same brush mix of paint.
Paint wispy comma-strokes on the left side using a no. 3 round and a brush mix of Medium Red Rose+Permanent Alizarin Crimson+Pink Mix (1:1:tch), following the curve of the rose when painting. Pick up Warm White on the dirty brush and add wispy comma-strokes on the other side of the rose, carrying a stroke around the center. High- light a few strokes with Warm White.

FINISHING
Trim the Medium Green Mix band with one coat of Warm White for the stripes. Using a no. 6 flat, paint each stripe leaving a brush width space between each stripe. Paint a line on the right side of each stripe with a liner and thinned Teal Green.
Paint the band and top of finial with Pink Mix.
Decorate the band on the lid with a long wavy line using a no. script liner and thinned Pink Mix. Add comma-strokes with a no. 1 liner
and Pink Mix. Overstroke the comma- strokes with smaller Medium White com- ma-strokes. Decorate the finial in the
same manner.
Paint stripes on the finial and line
work on the bottom edge around the roses with a liner and thinned Pink Mix.
Paint linework around the lid and finial with thinned Light Green Mix.
ANTIQUING THE ROSES
The area with roses is lightly antiqued. Be certain the area is completely dry before antiquing. Brush a thin coat of DecoArt Traditions Extender over the lid. Pick up a little Burnt Umber on a no. 6 filbert and brush over the area. Wipe back with a paper towel to highlight the roses and leaves. Soften edges with a mop. Antiquing should be darkest around the edges keeping the roses lighter.
Finish with two coats of Satin Varnish.
