84 The Decorative Painter • ISSUE NO. 2, 2016
In the language of flowers, the daisy is associated with purity and innocence. However, for me, daisies’ sun- ny optimism bring cheer and the promise of warmer weather. I love journals and colored pencils, and I am
thrilled to have found a way to bring them together incor- porating the happiest of all flowers.
PREPARATION
Cut the fabric 1" larger on all sides than the book to be covered. Wrap the inner pages in plastic wrap to keep them clean and dry while working on the cover. With the flat brush, apply Mod Podge evenly and generously to the outside front cover. Lay the fabric over and press into place. Smooth to re- move any wrinkles and bubbles, making sure the edges are pressed down. Let this side dry, turn the book over and apply Mod Podge to the binding edge and back cover. Wrap the fab- ric over and smooth into place, pressing firmly on the edges and let dry. Apply Delta Textile Medium to the front cover, working it into the fabric fibers and extending a bit over the edge. Let dry and repeat with the side and back. Extending the textile medium off the cover edge and into the excess will help to stiffen it and make it easier to cut. When completely dry, trim the excess fabric along the edges of both front and back covers with the craft knife. Apply pattern lightly with white graphite paper.
