I use a sharp point in very tiny circles with a medium pressure. If there is a hard edge, I will first use small paral- lel strokes along that edge to define it and cover the graph- ite line, and then fill in the area with small circles. Each section is worked the same. Block in each color, burnish, reapply colors and create a smooth blend and then create details. The only areas not burnished are the flower centers where I wanted a little more texture. Burnishing is done to push the pigment into the fabric and smooth out texture. I use the same small circles and slightly more pressure. I chose the Lyra Splender Colorless Blender over other color- less blenders because it is soft and won’t tend to scrape off all your hard work. Brush the work area often to get rid of pencil lead crumbs that can leave a mark on the fabric.
STEP 1: At the top and bottom narrowed areas of each letter, apply Olive Green, feathering the edge as you move toward the center.
STEP 2: With Yellow Green, lightly feather into Olive Green and then extend further toward the center, feather- ing the edge.
STEP 3: Apply Deco Yellow in the center; feather lightly into Yellow Green.
STEP 4: Burnish the letter with medium pressure using the blender. Reapply Olive Green and Yellow Green as be- fore, feathering into each other and creating a soft blend. Glaze the entire letter with Lime Peel and reapply Deco Yel- low in the highlight area. Reapply any colors as needed to get a smooth transition of values and colors.
