PREPARATION
Trace and apply pattern to canvas panel.
Begin by tearing sheets of vintage book pages and adhere them around the main design of Santa with DecoArt Premium Matte Medium, overlapping and creating a nice textural background. Add tissue paper to the same areas as well. The tissue paper will be more transparent and will add another layer of interest.
Apply a piece of red lace to the hat fur (optional).
Using the Christmas wrapping paper, adhere to hat and suit of Santa.
HAIR, FUR, MUSTACHE AND BEARD
Using a stiff old brush, stipple Joint Compound onto areas of fur.
Using a palette knife, apply Joint Compound freely to hair, mustache and beard using long strokes. Keep it loose and textured. Allow to dry.
BACKGROUND
Wash in layers of Cobalt Teal Blue over all of background. Drip both Cadmium Red Hue and Cobalt Teal Hue separately from the top of the canvas and allow it to drip down. Drip in
a small amount of Yellow Green Light and Sap Green to finish. Dry and repeat, allowing drips to fall onto areas of Santa’s suit. Splatter with leftover paint. Randomly stamp on Holly Stamp using both Cadmium Red Hue and Sap Green.
