This seahorse swaying in the water, spreading his colors for all to enjoy, was an easy multi-media piece to complete. You can add or remove elements as you please. This multi- media canvas brings together hot glue formations and acrylic pour paint to make a fun, easy-flowing, design for a one-of-a-kind project.
PREPARATION
Begin with any canvas. It doesn’t have to be a new canvas. If you are using a used canvas, paint it with Acrylic Gesso White Primer and the 1" flat brush. It may take several coats to cover. You don’t want to see any of what was previously on the canvas. Lay down a plastic table cloth or a drop cloth on your table, make sure you have plenty of room to walk around your canvas table. It will take a day to dry, so keep that in mind when deciding where to lay this all out.
LET’S PAINT
STEP 1 - Shows the design drawn on the canvas, then covered with hot glue. This is where you lay the groundwork of your design. You can make the seagrass more pronounced or flatter. You want to raise your glue gun off the surface while going over the seahorse. Make his outer lines, eye, and nodules on his face a little higher than the other inside lines.
Tip: If you do the outside lines first, it is easier to do a continuous line of glue and you’ll have fewer glue hairs to remove.
After the hot glue is dry, you must remove all the flyaway glue hairs you see. You can pick them off with your fingers or a pair of tweezers. Coat the entire hot glue design with gesso, making sure you get all the nooks and crannies covered so that the paint will stick.
