I love designing on plates because they are so easily displayed and moved around from one area of your home to another. My thoughts behind this design were to go out of my comfort zone, just a bit! I am usually what would be referred to as a “low key” painter .I love dark backgrounds and strong shadows with contrasting light values. It was a challenge for me to paint these vibrant, bright pink flowers (I don’t do pink. Haha!) and then to use the cool colors that I did for the leaves and the plate border. With my preferences in mind, I chose a dark background and then incorporated that color into the plate border. Stencils are a wonderful way to enhance a border or a frame. I enjoy floating color and this will be good practice for you when you paint this piece!
