LET’S PAINT
PINK FLOWERS
Basecoat the petals with Baby Blush. In this project, the basecoat color will remain as the lightest value. All other values will come from floating the darker colors. Try not to lose the Baby Blush as the light as you apply the other values. If that inadvertently happens, go back into the petal with Baby Blush and float it again to re-establish the light edges as needed.
Dampen each petal with clean water as you paint it. Use the 3/4" and 1/2" angles to begin softly floating Vivid Violet at the base of each petal and to tint some of the petal edges. Mop to soften. Working on a damp surface will help reduce the intensity of the Vivid Violet color. Using smaller angle brushes with Vivid Violet, float to separate petals and to form the flips and ruffles.
Deepen the shading using floats of Poetic Plum at the base of the petals and where they overlap, just not walking it out as far. Repeat the Poetic Plum (to strengthen the dark value) in some of the deeper, darker triangular areas formed where petals overlap. Very softly float a tint of Thicket on a few of the petals. Dampen the petal lightly with water before floating the Thicket tint and use a mop to keep it soft.
Tap in Marigold to the centers of the flowers using the small round brush. Keep the outside edge a little choppy. Then tap in a darker value of Light Cinnamon with a dirty brush and blend it with the mid-value Marigold. Pat back and forth between the colors while still wet to help them transition together. With the tip of a liner or the small end of a stylus, add pollen dots of Golden Straw.
