One of the most important things that I teach my students is learning to see. If students can learn to see the values of lights and darks, they can learn to paint
anything successfully. I hope this project, featuring fun vin- tage toys, will be a great way for you to practice this invalu- able concept, and will encourage you on toward greatness.
PREPARATION
Transfer the design to the drawing paper. Carefully tape the drawing paper to the Masonite board.
LET’S PAINT
STEP 1
This coverage is light and transparent.
JACK-IN-THE-BOX
HAT
The lightest areas are created with Light Peach. Fill in around these areas with Carmine Red, using slightly lighter pressure to create a gentle blend of colors. Next, shade the hat by applying small Crimson Lake X marks to create the hat’s soft, plush texture.
