FLOWER BOXES ON GROUND

WALKWAY
Basecoat the walkway with Warm White. Float Dark Chocolate shading along the bottom of the flower box- es, floating onto the walkway and around the doormat. Walk the shading out so the walkway is covered with a thin wash of the Dark Chocolate. Let dry. Deepen shad- ing on the walkway by adding a speck of Lamp Black to your brush.
Using a 1⁄2" angular, float Hauser Dark Green shading around the top window molding, on the sides and bot- tom of the window box, above and below the horizon- tal board, around the door moldings, and on all outside edges on the house (front side edges and backside edges). Go over this shading several times to deepen the color.
SCROLLS
Transfer the scroll designs with white graphite. Using a no. 10/0 script liner, line in the scrolls with thinned Celery Green. Shade to the bottom of them with a line of Hauser Dark Green. Highlight with Warm White+Soft Sage (1:1). Float Hauser Dark Green shading around all of the scrolls. Go over this shading several times to deepen the color.
HOLLYHOCK STEMS AND LEAVES
Transfer the hollyhocks, bird, nest, and but- terflies with white graphite. Line the hollyhock stems with Hauser Dark Green. Basecoat the leaves with Soft Sage+Hauser Medium Green (2:1). Add a squiggly vein line with Hauser

Using a no. 1 liner, stroke in the buds with Pumpkin+Country Red (3:1). Using a no. 6 liner, paint the flowers with the same mix. Stroke below the buds, paint the centers in the flowers, and add the lines that create petals on the flowers with Country Red+Rookwood Red (2:1). Add stroke leaves below the buds with Hauser Dark Green. Highlight the top edge of each leaf with a stroke of Lemon Yellow+Hauser Medium Green (3:1). Loosely outline the petals with Warm White and add a little Lemon Yellow on the right side of this outline. Tap in tiny “push hard” double dots (see Painting Tips) in the center of the flowers with Country Red and then Lemon Yellow.

Using a scruffy no. 4 flat, stipple Hauser Dark Green into the window box and flower boxes for background foliage. BLuE FLOWERS: Using a no. 4 or 6 liner, add little flow- ers with Warm White+Deep Periwinkle (3:1). They each have one, three, four, or five petals. Wipe your brush on a paper towel, pick up Deep Periwinkle in your brush, and dab this onto the petals to add shading. Wipe your brush again on a paper towel and pick up Warm White to dab highlights on the petals.
PEACH FLOWERS: Add little flower petals with Warm White+Pumpkin (1:1). Wipe your brush on a paper towel, pick up Pumpkin in your brush, and dab this onto the
petals to add shading. Wipe your brush again on a paper towel and pick up Warm White to dab
highlights on the petals.
CEnTERS OF BOTH FLOWERS: Tap in tiny
“push hard” double dots in the centers with Country Red and then Lemon Yellow.
LEAvES: Paint in tiny leaves of Lemon Yellow+Hauser Medium Green (2:1). Add a vein line with Hauser Dark Green. Line a highlight on one side of the leaves with Lemon Yellow+Hauser Medium Green
(4:1).
