TRANSFER THE ROSE AND LEAVES
The technique I use most, when painting, I refer to as acrylic blending, or wet-into-wet blending. I prefer this method of blending one value into the next because of the subtle value changes that occur when one value is blended into another. The technique I use is as follows:
With solid coverage, basecoat the elements in the paint- ing with the medium value mixes. For the rose you will use a mixture of Hansa Yellow Medium+Yellow Oxide (3:1). When dry use the 1" wash and moisten the surface with Extender, brushing it back and forth across the surface. You want a thin but well distributed, even layer of the DecoArt Extender & Blending Medium with no puddles. Use an appropriate size chisel blender for whatever size rose petal you are blending. Dip the brush into the DecoArt Extender & Blending Me- dium, blot well on a paper towel and sideload into the light- est value (highlight or light). Now tap off the excess paint on a waxed palette. Do not blend the brush back and forth on the waxed palette. The blending is done on the painting surface. Hold the brush at a 33-degree angle to the paint- ing surface (as parallel to the surface as possible without letting the metal ferrule touch the painting surface); apply this loaded brush to the highlight or light area of the paint- ing. Sideload the opposite side of the brush into the next
