GLAZING MAP
    STAGE 1
Create depth in the composition by painting all the ele- ments in values. Note: All the elements are basecoated us- ing solid coverage. Use nos. 2, 4, 8, and 10 chisel blenders for the petals of the yellow rose. (See color mix for yellow rose on previous page.) Use nos. 2, 4, and 8 chisel blend- ers for the leaves and stems. (See color mix for leaves and stems on previous page.)
APPLYING A BARRIER COAT
Dry the surface and put on one coat of DecoArt Glaz- ing Medium+DecoArt Multi-Surface Sealer (1:1). I keep an 8-ounce bottle of this mixture on hand at all times. This will act as a barrier coat allowing light to pass through the semi-transparent layers that are added in the next stage, creating an inner depth. It also acts as a protective coat
to easily wipe off any mistakes that might happen in this stage of the painting.
Hint: Sometimes DecoArt Glazing Medium will get a little thick. When this happens add a tiny amount of water to help brush it on smooth. Try not to add too much water, as you do not want to dilute the adhesion properties of the glazing medium. Allow to dry and proceed.
ENHANCEMENT GLAZING
A glaze is a transparent to semi-transparent color that is applied over a dried opaque color. Other terms or forms of glazing include antiquing, rouging, veiling, and a wash of color. Glazing is a method to make a color richer, add tints, accents, turning colors, reflected color, reflected light and shadows. It can also add an under-glow, warmth and or an aged patina.
