Inland Waterways Journey
On 25 Dec 2020 the Ferry anchored in Sagar, marking the beginning of its passage
through the inland waterways with assistance from the Inland Waterways Authori-
ty of India (IWAI). IWAI Pilot embarked onboard as per the mandate, for safe nav-
igation of the Ferry through Hooghly-Bhagirathi stretch i.e. from Sagar to Farakka
Barrage. The Ferry covered over 1500 km from Sagar (Haldia) to Varanasi.
This book has stories to tell from the present life of the past history and back to
present.
Jute production has been a major industry in West Bengal for a few centuries now
since British Rule. Most of the mills are concentrated along the banks of the Hoogh-
ly River. These Mills are now part of history and all that remains is forlorn chim-
neys, rusted locked gates and dilapidated large mills.
